Description

While you are in the midst of learning what CERT is and how it works, we want to let you know about opportunities to actually put into action all of the concepts you are learning. When you see it and do it, what appears abstract will come into focus. Other active members from previous classes have commented that these opportunities gave them a much better feel of what would be expected of them as a team members during an actual disaster.

YOU ARE INVITED TO BE A PART OF THIS SHOULD YOU DESIRE TO DO TO.

This is a full spectrum CERT/NTP exercise which takes place over six city blocks and covers 300 homes. CERT & NTP members from all over the city and neighboring areas will descent on this welcoming community to practice disaster assessment & incident response skills. The Grayburn area has worked with us to host this event for almost five years. The immediate community has 12 members who are CERT trained with more being trained in current classes. Members will be sent into the community to first assess damage in the first hours after a major event. For those situations which need a larger response, in absentia of professional responders, our members will attempt to handle...or not handle. Our training will determine what action(s) we take. Members of LAFD, LAPD, LAEMD, and other departments will be on hand and participating. You will be tossed into the fray of an actual exercise which will test you in all area. Veteran CERT members will be acting as facilitators/storytellers to our teams in the field and those at the main staging area.

If you are interested in participating in this exercise, please send an email to CERT68CHIN@gmail.com. An Eventbrite sign-up will be sent out when it becomes available. ALL PARTICIPANTS must sign up via Eventbrite .
